Nineteen Connecticut schools ranked in the top 500 of Newsweek’s “Best STEM Schools for 2020” list. Released Friday, the national list included nine private schools in Connecticut and 10 public ones.

Applied Assistant Professor of Engineering Phil Faraci ’89 recently participated as a judge at the Connecticut STEM Science Fair on Feb. 8. To participate as a judge at the event, individuals must have a background in one of the sciences, engineering or mathematics areas. This was his third year participating in the STEM fair as a judge and encourages other University faculty to participate in the future.

Why Earn Your BS in STEM at Sacred Heart? The STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) major at Sacred Heart University provides students with curriculum grounded in the natural sciences that combine courses from multiple traditional disciplines. In this major, you will develop basic skills by taking foundational courses in science, mathematics, and computing. You’ll then focus on additional science content in advanced courses across multiple disciplines. A fourth-year capstone course will help you integrate the concepts from multiple disciplines to solve real-world problems through case studies and projects.

The Albertus Magnus College community was overjoyed to host the 2019 Connecticut STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Academy camp on August 6, 2019.
CT STEM Academy was established in 2012 as a collaborative program between the Wallingford Youth and Social Services and the Spanish Community of Wallingford (SCOW) with support from the Wallingford Rotary Club and Connecticut Education Association. The Academy is open to the general population, and 50% of the students are Hispanic.
The Connecticut STEM Fair continues its tradition of comprehensive judging and interaction between the students and professionals.
I started Career In STEM in May of 2017 out of the frustrations I experienced as an inner city middle and high school science teacher in Hartford, CT. My students had no idea what they wanted to be. And think about it – how do you know what you want to do until you have DONE it? The truth is, you won’t, and I couldn’t find a fun and easy way to help my students learn about STEM careers – so I made one, and Career In STEM was born!

Under G2O, CWEALF plans and implements Girls & STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Expos every year, serving approximately 300-600 girls and their teachers. Each one-day Expo is held at a local college or university and consists of hands-on workshops and team-building exercises led by women in STEM careers. Some of the hands-on workshops include The Amazing Cube, Battling ‘Bots, Catapulting to a Solution, Toying with Engineering and many more!

About NASA @ My Library is a grant project awarded to the Connecticut State Library. As part of the project, the Middletown Library Service Center has available three NASA @ My Library STEM kits for circulation to public libraries. There is one Kit 1: Sun-Earth-Moon Connections and there are two of Kit 2: Be a NASA Detective. Kits can circulate for 4-5 weeks. Kit details are below.

The NViSION program is a scholars/scholarship program that supports academically-talented STEM students. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, by 2026, occupations in STEM fields will increase by 17%! STEM CT provides Connecticut's youth with real world, hands on education from industry professionals in these fields.

The BS in Economics at Trinity College has been designated as a STEM Extension eligible major by the State of Connecticut Office of Higher Education. For international students who graduate with a BS in Economics, this means they will be able to use their regular Optional Practical Training for one year and then apply for an additional two years of work authorization under the OPT STEM Extension.

The MS in STEM Education for Certified Teachers will prepare certified teachers in the trans-disciplinary areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Courses are aligned with National and/or CT state content standards in each discipline: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, and the Common Core for Mathematics and Language Arts. This program does not lead to CT state teacher certification or cross-endorsement.
